THE SHORT ANSWER (TSA)
Mechanoids are fictional robots featured in the British Television Series, Doctor Who. These large spherical robots were created to serve human colonists on the planet Mechanus. The robots were sent as an advance party to prepare the planet for its human colonists, but after that, things went terribly wrong.
Apparently, a protracted interplanetary war involving earth, postponed, indefinitely, the arrival of the earth colonists. When an earth astronaut was, later, stranded on Mechanus, he was held captive by the robots because he didn’t have the codes necessary to control the Mechnoids.
Doctor Who arrived to rescue the astronaut. But the good Doctor found his craft, the Tardis, had been followed by the Daleks, an alien race that no one in the universe wants to meet in a dark alley (or anywhere else).
Later, the Mechanoids became involved in a battle with the Daleks. Fighting with the Daleks is never a stroll in the park. Although the outcome of battle was never revealed in the TV series, the Daleks continued to cause trouble in future episodes, while the Mechanoids were “curiously absent.”
So, the Daleks destroyed the Mechanoids? Right?
Well, that depends on what you read, watch, or listen to.
Doctor Who is not just a TV series but also a comic book series. A lot of material, including short stories, is regularly produced in a variety of media. So, while the Mechanoids were never seen on TV, again, they’ve gone on to an illustrious career in other media.
As the story goes, long before Doctor Who’s arrival, the Mechanoids had built a space station for fueling. (A sort of space gas station, I guess?) A fight broke out there between the Mechanoids and Daleks. When the smoke cleared, the Mechanoids had destroyed a Dalek ship. The Daleks, angry as usual, prepared for war and launched an entire planet on a collision course with Mechanus.
But some meddling interplanetary pacifists destroyed the planet/projectile before it stuck Mechanus. These same pacifists told the Mechanoids a tall-tale: that the Daleks hadn’t the launched the planet to collide with Mechanus. Instead, the Daleks had blown up the run-away planet out of the goodness of their hearts to save Mechanus for the Mechanoids. The Mechanoids, believing the tall-tale, were touched by this fictional good turn, and stopped the war.
Alas, later, the Mechanoids became involved in another war with the Daleks on the planet Hesperus. The ill-fated Mechanoids met their Waterloo on the planet Magella where they were destroyed by the Daleks.
So, the Daleks destroyed the Mechanoids? Right?
All we can say is that no one has heard anything about the Mechanoids since. Not on TV or on video or in print.
The End?
