The Mundo Spider isn’t just another giant spider robot – it's robotic “entertainment” on eight legs. Yes, this giant rideable robotic spider is designed to entertain. And, refreshingly, for those of us who are particular about arachnid details, this spider robot has the full complement of eight (count ‘em) – eight legs. Just like a real spider!
Since first appearing on the scene in 2006, the ride-able Mundo Spider weighs in at a svelte 1,600 pounds. Aside from its growing reputation as a performer, this is one of the only electrical giant spider robots out there.
What’s so important about that?
Well, I suppose some might tout Mundo Spider’s electric operation as eco-friendly. But this giant spider ‘bot’s electric power gives it a “range” -- as a performer -- that none of its peers can match -- it can perform in-doors for extended periods of time.
Up till now, a giant ride-able mechanical spider might put on a show in your front yard, but what about your living room? Really, doesn’t a giant robot spider lose just a little of its sci-fi-terrifying quality if it can’t burst into your home and wreck havock. It wouldn’t do that, but isn’t it just a little more exciting knowing that it could?
It’s one thing imagining the excitement of being chased indoors by a rampaging robot spider threatening to wreak havoc in your living room. It’s another thing to imagine going the emergence room for treatment after inhaling exhaust fumes.
In fact, Mundo Spider is a bit big to fit in anyone’s living room, but you could get the same thrill being chased around inside a convention center or other large indoor venue.
